A dirt road runs through the scene, bordered by greenery, small trees, and open grassy areas. The sky above is bright with scattered clouds, adding to the tranquil, countryside atmosphere

POSTCARD FROM VISCRI, ROMANIA!

– Summer travel exploration with insight from owner, Cathy

Searching for a slower break during the summer had us booking a flight to Romania to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Viscri. Celebrated for its picturesque charm, traditional Saxon homes, cultural heritage, and as a favorite destination of King Charles III, we stepped back in time to embrace a slower pace of life.

The highlight of our stay? Viscri 125, a bed and breakfast gem, where our room—marked 1839 on one of its ceiling rafters—was furnished with authentic Saxon beds , handwoven rugs, and a beautiful tile-covered fireplace . Dinner? It felt like we were enjoying a Romanian grandmother’s kitchen: fragrant vegetable soup , veal, fluffy bread, and even the resident cat  enjoyed it too!

This one-day/one-night stop is  if you’re visiting Transylvania !

Our 24 hours in Viscri:

  1. Visited HRH King Charles III’s house, now a museum—highlighting the conservation of traditional buildings and rich local history .
  2. Wandered through cobblestone streets, checking out local craft shops and art pop-ups .
  3. Chatted with the friendliest locals.
  4. Took a serene morning walk to the fortified church, built in the 1100s.
  5. Overnight stay at Viscri 125 with breakfast and dinner 🍽️.

Viscri, you’re a timeless treasure! 💌.

A rustic wooden house with a steep, tiled roof surrounded by lush greenery. The house features large wooden-framed windows and doors. A tree with a leaning trunk partially obscures the left side of the house, and the yard in front is well-maintained with grass. The sky above is overcast.
