What defines a great hotel experience? For me, it’s the feeling of returning to a place that feels like home – where every detail, from arrival to departure, whispers care and attention. This is how it is at Vila Foz, Hotel & Spa, a renovated Manor House nestled in a charming neighborhood along Porto’s seaside. Rooms here are more than just spaces; they’re sanctuaries of comfort, with pristine cleanliness, calming aromas, and luxurious linens that make it hard to leave. And then there’s the food—I am a foodie, after all – flavors to surprise and delight.
Dinner at the Bistro
Our first taste of Vila Foz magic began at their Bistro, the hotel’s new dining spot located in the Mercado de Matosinhos. Fresh, local seafood steals the show here, and while the market’s energy is livelier during lunch, our dinner experience was nothing short of fantastic. We opted for two starters and two main courses, and the portions were more than enough for four people Think rich flavors and generous portions—Escabeche de Carapau, Steak Tartar, Prawn Moqueca, and Fish Stew Rice, all paired beautifully with Quinta dos Carvalhais white wine. Great food paired with great company!
Morning Indulgence
The next morning, we had an early start as we were headed to the Douro Valley. But first, breakfast. Their serene breakfast room is the ideal place to ease into the day. Their pancakes? Fluffy, delicious, and absolutely wonderful. And for those who wished to be surprised – freshly shucked oysters were also on the buffet.
